...lost label tree seedling...

Who can help me please ...

In my collection of seedlings from trees and shrubs is a strange plant ...lost label ( it was the only plant in this sowing pot )
Now it it grows well in a single pot ...
in last years I have sown many species of Euonymus ...so my idea was it could be E.obovatus ( seeds bought from Botanically Inclined ) ...but now I'm unsure ...this plant is now 57 cm high ....
Another idea would be Euonymus verrucosus ( seeds ex SRGC seed Exchange )
I have also sown seeds from Bjornar Olsen and other sources...but they do not match ( other trees ,perrenial ,annual ..)

It would be great if anybody here has a idea what this could be

In  Euonymus verrucosus the leaves are opposite  and on E. obovatus too, I think,  while those on your plant are  alternate.   Not a lot of help, I know!

If it's from me it must have been a stray seed mixed in, I haven't collected anything similar. What about a stray seed flying in from your neighbours? It reminds me of a Populus, P. nigra or something related maybe? I remember always having to weed out birch and pussy willow seedlings in Norway.

Hi Hans, got you email and I'm looking
I see nothing but a young tree, most likely a Populus (could be a birch too); seeds are easily landing on pots/grounds and germinate easily. Some species are quite weedy in fact (Populus).

As Maggi mentions, the genus Euonymus has opposite leaves.

I had never thought that could be landing seeds from other trees in our garden ...
A little wood with Populus is around few KM's from here  ...nobody here from our neighbars has Populus in the garden

Maggi - your advice with the opposite leaves was very good ...now I have also solved another puzzle in my seedlings ...
My idea was always it is Euonymus cornatus quincecornatus ...now I know it is a simple Salix ( also opposite leaves )
But the good Thing is ...I have a correct named Euonymus quincecornatus ...seeds es SRGC seed Exchange

Bjornar - I'm waiting for your new seed list ...I have many seedlings from your seeds ...only with Helwingia + Dichroa I have Problems ...

I have had zero success germinating E. ccornutus var. quinquecornutus.  Any hints for me Hans?  I have been sowing in winter when the seed ex seeds arrive, and after 3 to 5 years (leaving outside with some winter protection) here in USDA zone 4, still nothing.....

E. verrucosus is indeed an interesting plant.

Hi Rick ,

I'm sorry but I cannot give any special hints for germination of E.quincecornatus ...
I have it tried several times with sowing ...from different sources- privat - via swap ...nothing
Now in 2017 I got seeds from SRGC  ...they germinate well ( I have now one bigger + 4 small )
The only advice what I can give is watering the seeds for 7 days ...change the water daily

Your E.verrucosus is a wonderful plant !
Do you get seeds from your plant ?
If yes ...I would be interested for some seeds - I can buy or we swap something

So far I know the fertility of Eunoymus is a bit difficult - it exist male , female and self-fertile plants

It's only been flowering for the last five years, and the last three years it produced about five seeds.  Two of them disappeared before I could harvest them, and the other three are planted in pots.... doing nothing.  I will keep you in mind if I get anything this year.  Maybe you will have better luck then me!
