Here's a puzzle. If I sow seeds of some of my N watieri hybrids which are obviously hybrids eg they are yellow, how does what appears to be pure watieri turn up in the F2 and F3 generations?

Just luck I guess!

 Isn't it simply that in the repeated crossing the  white gene  stands a reasonable chance of meeting another one and making white  seedlings?  Must say those in your photo look just like the straight species!

The ones in the photo are the straight species. In some cases all the seedlings look like watieri.

While madly potting all the species today, it's nice to be reminded what is hiding in those tiny bulbs!
.....N triandrus (keeping the same bulbs going is a challenge - keep sowing seeds!)

I got thiis Narcissus triandrus ssp triandrus from Graham Fleming last year and it's still here!
I've already self-pollinated it and used its pollen on a few others

This is a seedling I raised from a hybrid called 'Romsey' 2YP (which was raised by a friend, Doug Bryce, who sadly died a few years ago) in 2004.
I no longer have the seed parent  and have no idea what the pollen parent was.
Initially flowered in 2014 and I recorded it as a 2WP but I now think it might be a jonquilla hybrid and so it should be a 7WP

Here in the Southern Hemisphere the cavalcade of daffs continue:

The 7W-YP is Jocelyn Newman.

The bulbocodium should have a longer number. We entered a 70mm bulbocodium that is to be called Dazzling Monty in the Canberra Show.

I must have been feeling really kindly to have supplied you with such a good NTT!!

I would've thought so, but it's twice the height! Could it just be due to different growing conditions?

The bulbocodium should have a longer number.

The bulbocodium is only labelled "KB10WY"because it came labelled as an 8WO! (see the thread from 2017).
I wonder if it's one of the ones you'd selected  for naming?

If it is the biggest bulbocodium you grow you have done well at the end of the day.
As for Jocelyn Newman growing tall I suspect it is more to do with your growing conditions. Here it is usually fairly short-stemmed. What have you been feeding it with to get such extra height?

'Langley Dandy' was bred by Eva Murray who lived about 15 minutes away from here.

Hi Graham,
the other bulb I have of "Jocelyn Newman' came from you and is growing in another bed where it appears to be the normal height.
This one came as a dry bulb - one of 3 labelled 'Charity May' (the other 2 are true to name) from someone at our plant swap last December.
They were planted in a raised bed with other bulbs (mostly daffs) and they all appear to be growing normally.
It's a mystery to me - I'll wait to see if it is the same size next year
