Why are trilliums and clintonia not welcome?

That is what we have been advised by the Botanics staff. The exclusion of Trillium is interesting because at least one list I consulted considered Trillium to be resistant. I wasn't expecting Trilliums for the display, but we must also exclude them from the plant sales too.

Here's the answer, Maggi, in an email from John:

The reason why is they are North American and have been identified as hosts of Pr and as such with the SPHN having been served they cannot come into or leave the garden.

It is getting harder and harder these days to grow plants.

Yet another thing to worry about...

Sorry Carolyn but I’m none the wiser.

I googled “Pr” in relation to Trillium and came up with both the Public Relations Dept of Trillium Asset Management and Trillium Public Relations (a Canadian media firm specialising in Public Relations).

A google search of “SPHN” gave top hits as the Swiss Personalized Health Network and the Sparrow Physicians Health Network (I kid you not).

Can anyone translate?   ???

Steve,
I assume PR is Phytophthora ramorum, since the other plants mentioned are woody and I suppose at risk. I have never heard of this applying to trilliums before.
I have no idea what SPHN is! Some kind of protection order?

Found it -  SPHN are Statutory Plant Health Notices regarding the movement of plants  in respect to various plant pest  threats.

Jargon can be  terribly  obfuscating.
