There will be six specialist nurseries attending, as well as the local Group plant Stall, so lots of retail therapy available, sparked by the show display at the upcoming "Embra" Show this Saturday!

The Alpine Dept. of RBG Edinburgh plans to take a display to the Edinburgh and the Lothians SRGC Show on Saturday 13th April. The difficulties of the season, which have been felt by many of our members with their own plants are also affecting the RBGE plants being grown by Elspeth and her Team - great to hear that they will attend this show !!
RBGE display at Edinburgh in a previous year .....

more snaps of winning plants. Another view of the Clematis then, from the same grower, Pulsatilla vernalis, part of her small 6 pan entry which took the Kilbryde cup for best plant in a 17.5cm pot while Anisotome imbricata received a certificate of merit -I think not for the first time.
Then Sam Sutherland's Fritillaria tuntasia which took the Henry Tod Carnethy Quaich for best bulbous plant. Ian and Carole Bainbridge -who used to be Edinburgh show secretaries - came back from the southwest to take the class 3 Elsie Harvey trophy for 3 new /rare plants. Good to see Ian at a show again.

Class 2 for 3 plants from different genera contained several award winning plants. The Forrest Clematis was in Sue's 3 pan while I received the Henry Archibald trophy for my 3 pans which included an Andromeda that was awarded the Alf Evans Quaich for best ericaceous plant other than a rhododendron. The Midlothian vase for best rhodo went to Dave Millward's R dendrocharis Glendoick Gem, part of his 3 pan entry.
The Corsar Trophy for best European primula went to Watt Russell for Aire Mist while David & Stella Rankin took the historic Bhutan Drinking cup for best Asiatic wth P bullata.

Nick Boss received the Curle Memorial Trophy for 3 pans raised from seed. I was awarded the Boonslie cup for class 79, a miniature garden, and the Reid Rose Bowl for most points in the open section. Local member Chris Kelnar won the Midlothian bowl for best plant - a large potful of Pleione formosana - in section 2 as well as the prize for best plant from a new exhibitor. Pete Moore received a bronze medal. Finally a view of the Iris that received a merit certificate for RBGE.
