Iris for ID
« on: May 06, 2008, 10:20:29 PM »
Here two pictures of an Iris brought to me without a name.
I hope someone knows what it is.
It's about 20 cm high.

I'm not absolutely sure Luit, but maybe I. ruthenica. If there's no stem (only tube) it could be what is usually known as I. ruthenica nana. However, I'd like someone else to confirm (or not). Whatever, it's lovely. The foliage looks right for ruthenica and the timing too.

Lesley, I have been studying several sources and I think you are right.
Alas you were the only one, who answered until now.
If nobody changed the names in the meantime I go for Iris ruthenica. Thanks a lot.
Here some old pictures:

Luit , yes I agree with Lesley, it looks very much like I .ruthenica ,which I grew many years ago , but no longer. Also looked it up in my copy of 'The Genus  Iris ',1913, I'm rather fortunate to own the original edition , and seems to agree. It is a charming dwarf species .

Thank you Otto. You are a lucky man. I just have to do with a reprint.   :(
