Hartwig Shepker stands tall over the coastal heathlands yesterday at Polly Cove, Nova Scotia. The Gaylussacia baccata could not have been better, reminisecent of Kingdon Ward's description of forrestii Repens in the wild - "hissing in red rivers down the wet screes like molten lava". Hartwig, friend and speaker here, is the Director of the Bremen Rhododendron Park. Thanks to friends for the photos. john
