It is nice to see snowdrops already flowering over there. 'Lemongrass' looks so special.
In my garden snowdrops are coming up slowly, there is now snow yet (but that may change in February, this is very unusual now), and 'Mrs Macnamara' is one of the most advanced ones. Spruce leaves are protecting Helleborus buds from cold and rabbits.
A week ago two seeds out of three from 'Trympostor' last summer germinated (and the third is now coming up), I'm really happy about them.

It seems that the leaves of a new planted Galanthus rizehensis are eaten by slugs.
Because I never noticed this before I would like to know if this happens often or if this
is special for rizehensis.

I canīt tell about G. rizehensis, but I noticed that slugs occasionally like to eat the green leaves of snowdrops - in my garden G. woronowii and seedlings fell prey. Since the population of slugs decreased in our region, I notice far more chance seedlings of Galanthus than in those times when slugs were a severe problem here.

I have only seen serious problems with slugs on Galanthus reginae-olgae. They nibble flowers on one or two other things, but defoliate Tilebarn Jamie, and that in different parts of the garden.

Baby slugs are a problem ever since the winters have become so warm (at temperatures above c. 5°C the baby slugs come out at night). My advice: go out at night with a headlamp and a pair of scissors. When you see them at or near your snowdrops, cut them up. In and admittedly cruel (but non-poisonous way) this takes care of a) the slug itself, and b) since other slugs feed on the corpse, it also takes away the attention of other potential slugs from the snowdrops during that night.

Thanks for advices alltogether - I realise that I have to watch for these little beasties - even during wintertime.

Has anybody tried chilli powder? I chucked a bit of coffee grind. All in moderate amount. The biggest threat to my snowdrops is me. I always upskirted them and bent their petals. That's how I removed 2 petals from 2 yellow ones!  >:(

Two recently introduced snowdrops to drool over.  The wonderful virescent 'Melody in Green' introduced by Gert Jan and first available at the Earsham Snowdrop Fair this year - I believe there will be some for sale in Europe!  Then the incredible changeling 'Blonde Ingrid' which has thrown up a 4 x 4!

My thoughts exactly  :). Very nice, and looks like it's flowers are quite large also.
