You know how it is, New Years Eve with neighbours, controlled by sherbets, neighbour asks 'John, what's this?', and you have absolutely no idea!

Tradescantia spathacea, one of those old pot plants that grow like weeds and can take everything. It's all over China too, and I've seen it used as a ground cover in Thailand.
