Recommendation please

Hello,

slowly my snowdrop collection begins to grow and those which are planted more than one year ago start to form clumps. Last year I was busy to get big ones and early ones. Now I'm looking for some Galanthus which flower late, May or even June to complete the snowdrop year.

Could someone please recommend me late flowering sorts? I'll visit the "Schneeglöckchentage im Luisenpark" in Mannheim and I'll look for them there.

If you want snowdrops that flower in June you may need to move to a suitable climate.  Some of the snowdrop species like krasnovii and platyphyllus flower very late in their native habitats but that is because the snow melts very late there.  But if you can grow them where you live now then you will probably find that they are still amongst the later ones to flower.

Double snowdrops will often last a good deal longer than the singles because they hang around waiting for pollination which is not physically possible.

Don't be fooled by 'April Fool' which is nowhere near as late as the name might suggest.

And my personal opinion is that late snowdrops don't work when surrounded by bigger, showier flowers that become abundant later in the spring.  So even if you can find them you will need somewhere very special, dare I say isolated,  to grow them.

Thank you Alan, for your advice. I found already out that the climate is the most importat factor (as with all plants; many ones that are called "hardy" in the lower parts of Belgium or the region where Mariette lives do not survive a winter here, though the Taunus is only a small mountain range). I try to get cultivars which flower late in places comparable with mine.

So I'll have to try.

As for the place, I have 22 m  hedge of field marble (Acer campestre) which is cut strongly every winter. On both sides there is space for small plants in spring, from June on the marble becomes thicker and I can no longer grow flowers there. So this is an ideal place for snowdrops.

It is much a matter of climate, and as Alan wrote, with the very late snowdrops many more plants are already flowering and take the focus out of little white flowers, but your hedge sounds like a good place for snowdrops.
Over here in normal springs most snowdrops flower at the same time, even early ones, but some come up a bit later than others.
'Hill Poe' is one of them, also I think 'Scharlockii' and green-tipped G.nivalis from Slovenia are later flowering (at least the one I have), as is also 'Hugh MacKenzie'. Fieldgate Forte' is later and 'Fieldgate Tiffany' is the latest for me. It is not very vigorous and seems to be very slow growing, at least in my garden.

The same here: The 'Scharlockii' are not yet to see, while a sort of nivalis is already flowering. What's funny: My G. nivalis come out of my mother's garden, all from the same clump. One sort is already flowering and besides them there are some just sprouting.

I'll report the next years!

The bulk of G. nivalis var. scharlockii flowers later, but several clones are out already, this one is just starting.

"Sally Pasmore" started flowering here by end of January, when even the nivalis are far from opening - not really late.
"Baxendale's Late" lives up to its name, ja small buds emerging, while "Miller's Late" doesn't, it starts flowering now. Hope I got the right thing.
The small spiky "Narwhal" was in flower from February to mid April last year and so I guess my latest.
