Glorious day here yesterday and some new and old plants said hello

Primula Auricula! When the seedlings appeared, they were most pathetic - no root and I wonder how they could survive. Survived they did, but it's a constant battle with slugs damaging their flowers! Rare perfect bloom!

The local Muntjac must be very happy. They have eaten all the Erythronium Pagoda I had round the apple tree. Still have several dozen round the Quince tree which I protected. They now have a fence too so may see a good display in a week or so. Annoyingly; they just eat the buds and leave the, leaves. Fenced the cutting tulips as soon as they came into leaf so still have them to enjoy.

Commiseration for you, Brianw. Very annoying when you wait for one WHOLE year only to see the buds snapped by critters. I poured tons of coffee grounds around my Fritillaria Imperialis crowns and they seem to be doing fine despite coffee grounds looking messy around the leaves. Perhaps, some pepper dusting next year!

Have made 3 raised bed, all sown with salad leaves, kale, rocket - Digging for England - something to distract me from the painful wait for my erythronium to unfurl its petals.

Fritillaria Imperialis Rubra - bought and sowed 3 - only 2 appeared for this colour. My upskirting skill is getting very devious! Captured such a lot of details despite using a cheap camera underneath the crown!

Garden very quiet and it's very cold even in East London!

It sleeted for a whole 5 minutes here on Sunday. Everywhere was closed and sad!

Cerinthe is already blooming - a real bonus for bees!

F Imperialis Lutea 2 have come up to say hello!

The blessed erythroniums keep teasing me. Six to 8 buds, a bit of white, pink and yellow! Wish I could surgically unfurl them!

Dens Canis teasing me badly. I have 3 of these and several of the others, all demure in BUDS! Very frustrating. Apart from that, plants got roasted and toasted by the terrible frost. Dread how folks cope up north!

We had sleet and hail at the weekend too, here in Aberdeen. Yesterday was pretty good -but it's perishing again today with an icy wind - warm sun bound to come sometime - surely?!!!

I don't think I can live in Scotland! Yesterday, I was whinging at 6pm, saying that it was soooo unusual to have this chilly wind in East London. I should have some EMPATHY for you. You Scots must be tough cookies - perpetual rains, winds and even snow! Scotland in summer is so pretty though! I hope The Beechgrove Garden is coming back soon. So missed it. The revamp or repot programmes are very good. The couple who planted a ring of fire with crocosmias turned their exposed place into a haven.

Been cleaning out my lean to and only after 7pm did I go out to have a look at my erythroniums. Gosh! They were quiet and I was thrilled to see ballerina in action.

I have enlarged the flowers and googled a bit. I really love the purply black pollen of the pink or lilacy ones.

Anybody knows when The Beechgrove Garden resumes? Can't wait. Saw the daff show yesterday and now I feel guilty having dug them all up to make way for salvias and friends.

Lilac/pink with dark purple pollen - I only saw it today.

I think the yellow one might be Pagoda! I'd love them to be Ballerina. Don't remember such a lovely name. I bought them from Crocus - well pleased that they come up this year. Those seeds that I bought are just a pure waste of time! Ballerina looks nearly the same, Maggi! As I am new to the flowers, I was a bit unimaginative buying them. I fancied Snowflake, but of course, they were perpetually out of stock.

I'd never heard of an Erythronium named Ballerina- but that means nothing - there are loads of cultivars of plants out there that I don't know!

Ooops! They are ALL ballerinas! Look at the way they dance around in my garden. They unashamedly lift up their tutus!
