Steve, in reply #7, 3 April,  I am delighted to see that you posted photos of two beautiful plants native to my region, Olsynium douglasii and Synthyris missurica ssp stellata. Interesting, too, is that they apparently have about the same bloom time as here.  The Olsynium grows in great swathes along the field edges and is joined by Frittilaria pudica and Ranunculus glaberrimus.  Synthyris missurica is native to the Craig Mtns. a few minutes' drive south of this ranch and grows very happily in a north slope garden here.

Thanks Sally.
Both of these grow in a shaded trough along the north wall of our house.

This plant is such good value, flowers for ages and only needs a quick whip-round with the shears at the end of flowering. Iberis sempervirens 'Fischbeck'

David, how often we overlook the "common" plants which give so much.

Agreed Ian. Mind you though, my being a Yorkshireman, a breed somewhat notorious for not liking to spend money, helps tremendously ;)

Some irises, a bit early as they're in a polytunnel:

unnamed Pacific Coast hybrid
'Benazir': this is an arilbred, raised by the late Lawrence Ransom in France, its aril parent was a Regelia, so no signal (spot) on the falls
'Forever Trevor': another PCI
