Meconopsis superba is going to flower this year

As far as I can gather from my records it was from my own collected seed sown in November 2011 and germinated in 2012. 2011 was the last time I had a flowering Mec. superba.  I don't know how long this one lingered in a pot before being planted out.  It is in a very dry spot sheltered by Salix x boydii and Rhododendron augustinii but seems very happy.  The previous one I planted (not from my own seed) died in the very wet summer of 2012.

Very nice Roma.  Do you find it necessary to protect the bigger rosettes against winter wet or is the shelter of a canopy enough?
I have seedlings sown in January from the seedex, so have some time to wait ...

Ashley, I don't protect the rosette.  It is well sheltered by the rhododendron.  I don't grow many monocarpic mecs.  They need so much room.  I think this superba is the 2nd or 3rd generation from my own seed. As far as I remember the original seed came from Harold McBride a very long time ago.  It is self fertile.  I've only had one plant flower at a time.  I have lost one very furry Meconopsis (don't remember the species) in winter wet and one superba in a wet summer.  I think the weather here is usually much drier than where you are but it varies considerably from year to year.  It is raining now after being dry for weeks.  I can't remember when last I had to put on a waterproof jacket to go out to feed the ponies.

Also I got seeds of M.suberba from seed ex. None have germinated yet, but the seed pots are outside and it's been cold April.
I was wondering the same thing as Ashley. Thank you Roma for the answer.
Last winter is rained a lot here, not snow but rain, and I lost two two-year old seedlings of M.napaulensis to wet, I think.

Mine germinated only a few weeks ago Leena, when temperatures finally rose, so yours may be waiting for the cold spell to pass.

Looks like I'm not going to get flowers on Meconopsis superba after all I'm not sure what happened but the stem looks as if it was cut half through and the inflorescence is now pointing downwards.  The buds are still ok but they are going to bury themselves in the soil if the half of the stem still left carries on growing.  I'm not sure if it's been damaged or if it's been uneven uptake of water that has caused it.  A friend was asking recently about her Allium 'Gladiator'.  3 out of 5 had bent over halfway up the stem.  I suggested it might be fluctuating temperatures or moisture supply. Possibly the same applies to my Mec.  I will be sorry to lose it as it is the third generation I have raised from the original, it takes a long time to flower and I don't have another coming on.
