It is my pleasure to post this information on behalf of the Pacific Bulb Society - I am a member and I commend membership to you.
European Bulb Exchange : A New Bulb and Seed exchange scheme for EU-countries ( and UK for this year)
The Pacific Bulb Society would like to announce the start of a new Bulb and Seed exchange for countries of the European Union (EU).
The Pacific Bulb Society
https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/ is a nonprofit organization in the USA for the benefit of people who garden with bulbs. One of the most attractive features of this society is the regular bulb and seed exchange (BX/SX) between members.
For those of you living in the European Union, requests to the BX/SX have been restricted to seeds and in the future even they will become more difficult. The board of directors of the Pacific Bulb Society has taken your frustration into account and decided to set up an EU Branch of the Seed and Bulb Exchange.
Only fully paid members of the Pacific Bulb Society can participate. If you are not sure about your membership status you can contact the membership secretary Jane McGary janemcgary@earthlink.net or the treasurer Arnold Trachtenberg Arnold140@verizon.net.
We very much apologize towards our non EU members. This new scheme can only be accessed by members with a postal address within the European Union (
and the United Kingdom for this year). We are very sorry not to be able to post outside the EU (and UK) for legal reasons. For those of you not sure whether you can order seeds or bulbs from the U.S.A. or the EU, or if you have not ordered before, please contact Luminita Vollmer, Exchange Director at luminita.vollmer@gmail.com
The Pacific Bulb Society Board elected Uli Urban to the board as a representative of the European Union. He is prepared to answer your questions concerning EU-matters of the Pacific Bulb Society. johannes-ulrich-urban@t-online.de
There will be two distributions per year of seed as well as bulbs, one in autumn for winter and spring growing bulbs and one in spring for summer growing bulbs. The first one is scheduled for September. The reception of donations and distribution of orders will be managed in Germany. All the necessary details will be announced in due course in the email forum of the society
https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/list.php#ArchiveWe particularly invite our members in the UK to participate in the new EU bulb and seed exchange this year. We do not know what Brexit will bring next year. On the other hand we are aware of the fact that the Scottish Rock Garden Club had to cancel their seed exchange due to the COVID Situation and the Alpine Garden Society’s decision is pending. We are not able to step into this gap since PBS is focused strictly on bulbs so please restrict your donations to seed of bulbs and bulbs only.
So…… please think of the many fellow bulb lovers when you dig up bulbs or when you harvest seeds. As the EU covers very different climates and many members will have a greenhouse: all bulb and seed material is welcome. The success or failure of this new scheme depends on your participation.
