2021 Awards given at Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society - affectionately known as The Caley
The Caley's 2021 AGM was held this evening by Zoom meeting, with over 100 members attending. Tributes were paid to David Knott, retiring as President, and Colin Ainsworth was voted in to the post.
Awards were made as follows -
Certificates of Merit - awarded to acknowledge those with a wide range of significant service to gareneing and horticulture in Scotland -
were given to:
Agnes Rossi, Carolann Philp, Christine Watson (of the SRGC) Graham Greenwell, Mary Holligan, Robert Moran, Stuart Ritchie and to William and Myra Dyer.
Awards to Horticultural Groups were made to : Bonnie Blantyre and Friends, MAXwell Centre Dundee, Alcohol & Drugs Action Recovery Garden Project Aberdeen and Dalkeith Guerilla Gardeners
The Carter Patterson Memorial Medal was awarded to Jamie Sinclair, keen alpine plant grower and trainee at Branklyn Garden.
The Caley Award for outstanding contribution to the RCHS was made to former President Pam Whittle.
The Dr. Andrew Duncan Medal, for distinguished service by an educationalist, advisor or administrator, was given to Colin Ainsworth.
The Queen Mother's Memorial Medal was given to Nicola Cole for her work in therapeutic gardening.
The biennial award of the Patrick Neil Memorial Medal for a Scottish botanist or cultivator was made to Brian Ballinger of Easter Ross.
The Scottish Horticultural Medal for outstanding contribution to Scottish Horticulture was awarded to two people -
Stephen McCallum of Dounside and the MacRobert Trust
and
Elizabeth MacGregor who will be known to many for her gold medal displays and fine violas and self-raised hybrid perrenial plants.
