Narcissus September 2021
« on: September 01, 2021, 03:20:55 PM »
To celebrate the beginning of spring here in the Southern hemisphere here is Narcissus nivalis which last year started to flower in September but this year started in May!
I grew the seed sent by Rafa but by mistake took some small bulbs with me when I went to Europe and then onto Ireland. Knowing I couldn't take them back into Australia I left them with Ashley in Cork. He flowered them and sent me back some seed and so I have it back again!
cheers

Thanks, again, Ashley.
The siblings to the original bulbs I gave you had been planted in the garden and have died out! So I'm glad I was able to get the seed from you.
Here's a hybrid "hoop" called 'Wubwub' from Lawrence Trevanion, part of his "Baby Talk" series.
Pics taken 2 days apart,
cheers

Wow, that's a bit floriferous Fermi :o and obviously Errol hasn't been gardening for you lately.
I really like 'Silver Chimes' too & think most hybrids involving triandrus are worth space.

Ashley, Errol has been busy "gardening" in other, more "anty" parts of the garden ;D
'Wubwub' is probably the best performing of Lawrence's "hoops" which I grow.
I didn't realise that 'Silver Chimes' had N. triandrus in it's breeding, but unfortunately (as far as I know) they result in "mules" so you can't use them for further breeding. I think Lawrence (or possibly Graham Fleming) told me that he was working on breeding fertile triandrus hybrids but I don't know if that has been achieved,

Narcissus viridiflorus in flower today for the first time.
It has a most peculiar lemony like scent, never smelled anything like it before.
