I love the dark sheath on those tree peonies.
The Itoh 'Watermelon Wine' here - it is a somewhat deeper colour than in my photo and very nice!

Paeonia (Intersectional)  'Bartzella'

Paeonia (Intersectional) 'Garden Treasure'

The difference between the two peonies is imperceptible, 'Garden Treasure' blooms a few days later and is definitely shorter.

My last one in flower is a 'Coral Sunset'. 12th April till nearly the 12th of July is not a bad peony flowering season...

Some of my peonies from last summer.
Always the first ones to flower are P.obovata

and P.japonica, both growing in part shade.

Close following are P.anomala in full sun

and P.officinalis (hybrid??)

This was grown as P.intermedia from Göteborg Botanical garden seeds but it must be a hybrid, because it's roots are not tuberous like P.intermedia should be.

The previous peonies started to flower in the third week of May, and P. x smouthii starts in the end of May.

I have grown this peony from seed ex seeds from 2014 as P.steveniana. It took two years to germinate, and flowered for the first time last summer.
I'm not sure if it was labelled right, and it would be great if someone had a picture of the original mother plant. :)
It started to flower at the end of May, and had a nice darkish foliage. I forgot to take pictures of the underside of the leaves and hairs.
Any ideas?

The contrast between flowers and leaves is gorgeous! I´ve got some species from different sources under the name P. mlokosewitschii and caucasica, respectively, with bronze coloured leaves like Yours, yet purple flowers. Well done, Leena!

Mariette, thank you! :)
I have also bronze/brown coloured young leaves in mloko and different dauricas. They are so nice in spring when coming up.

I have now been wondering if my P.steveniana is in fact related to some kind of P.obovata, but last summer I didn't see the resemblance which I now see in some pictures...

Here are some other peonies.
I have two grown as P.caucasica. The other one is from seed ex and it is a nice very small plant. I had two of these and sent the other one to a forumist in exchange for some other plant.

The other one is a taller plant, grown from Holubeck seeds P.caucasica ex Russia.

I moved these plants to this bed the previous autumn so I think leaves will be bigger now this year when they are better established.

This plant is grown from Pilous seeds P.dahurica Crimea.

I'm not sure what to call this plant. It is not pure P.mlokosewitchii, neither is it P.wittmanniana ssp tomentosa, maybe it is a hybrid,
but it is a very good plant. Some kind of daurica/hybrid.

The same a few days later, and P.mlokosewitchii in the background.

Leena, lovely Paeonia. In 2023, I also planted a number of different wild Paeonia in our garden. Now wait for them to bloom.
