Maggi, I don,t agree with Colin Crosbie,s statement about wild flowers or "weeds." There is not enough publicity about the plight of our wildlife, especially flowers. A ten year survey by the BSBI has revealed that there are now more alien species growing in the wild than our own native plants. A lot more needs to be done to reverse the decline in our wild plants due to invasive foreign species. Featuring our wild flower species in showcase gardens helps to draw attention to the problem, in my opinion.
I'm not sure, but I think Colin was referring to the hype we saw about "all Chelsea gardens featuring wild flowers"..... just the way I read it.
Maggi,You are probably correct about Collin's reference; but; any reference to wildflowers as weeds is counterproductive to conservation efforts. If wildflowers, especially endangered wildflowers, are regarded as weeds; conservation efforts are doomed to fail.
