Margaret Glynn, Northern Ireland, has passed away.
« on: September 14, 2023, 02:24:51 PM »
Margaret Glynn, a star of Northern Ireland gardening has passed away.

Margaret Glynn died peacefully in Dunmurry on  11th September 2023. She was  dearly beloved wife of the late Louis and loving mother of Gareth and Rohan, dear mother-in-law of Nuala and Kym, devoted granny to Ellen, Maura, Darragh, Raurai and Shay and a dear friend to so many.

A loyal and very valued member of the SRGC and AGS, particuarly in Northern Ireland, she made a wonderful garden at her former home Brocklamont, in Ballymena and was responsible for the distribution of many great plants – as was her dear friend, the late Bob Gordon.

Margaret, with Harold McBride, Bob Gordon, John McWhirter and Maisie Michael formed  the original group of Northern Ireland gardening stars who came across the Irish Sea for some  Shows and always for the SRGC Discussion weekends. They were often joined by others, such as Susan Tindall, Dorothy Brown and June Dougherty and many more – bringing their happy presense to those gatherings.

In this Forum, we have been treated to photos of plants from Brocklamont  by Mark Smyth, another terrific admirer of Margaret and her garden, where she grew a very wide range of beautiful  plants, from dwarf bullbs to trees.

The hospitality given by Margaret at her home and garden to so very many visitors over the years is second to none and is fondly remembered by all of us who benefitted from it.
Margaret also proved a good supporter of plant sales wherever she found them and she enjoyed visiting nurseries as well as gardens and horticultural events to meet other gardeners.
Margaret’s funeral will arrive at Roselawn crematorium on Thursday 14th September at 17.20pm for a service of thanks giving.

We send our deepest condolences to her family  - Margaret is another wonderful person lost to us.

A reminder that the garden of Margaret and Louis can be seen in this  Ulster TV programme from 1991 :

( There are other programmes of interest on that site too - such as this visit to Maisie Michael's garden in 1986:

or this to the garden of Dorothy Brown : https://digitalfilmarchive.net/media/how-does-your-garden-grow-dorothy-2753    and this from  Drs Noel and Molly Sanderson; https://digitalfilmarchive.net/media/how-does-your-garden-grow-doctors-3329 and, of course, from Helen and Val Dillon: https://digitalfilmarchive.net/media/how-does-your-garden-grow-helen-2736 )
