Very nice indeed. Does it have a trace of green at the basis of the outer segments? I believe some C. iranicus have this trait, but not all.

With me the earliest crocus in my collection is C. caricus, which just opened today. Of the ones already blooming, none has any brown in the throat, which I consider a particularly appealing feature of this species (Unfortunately, I cannot attach a photo as I simply don’t have time to transfer photos to my laptop and downsize them and direct smartphone upload no longer works).

I wouldn't say it's green. But with the outer blue and the inner yellow at the base it can seem that way.

Not always caricus has brown in throat - in this aspect it is quite variable.

Sadly, yes. It's not that the ones I have are not beautiful, so I shouldn't complain. But the dark throat just enhances the effect of the dark anthers so much more..

Btw, it’s quite hard to pollinate them, they are really sparing with their pollen.

In 2015 I planted five bulbs of C.heuffelianus, some from Janis and some from Leonid Bondarenko, all a bit different, and they have been doing great here.
Increasing well but sadly I haven't gotten any seeds from them, possibly because of our weather.



About five years ago I sowed C.heuffelianus seeds from Pilous, and they are flowering now. I especially like the one with very dark tips.

Like many of you in the last weeks I have been preparing everything for the new growing season which is about to embark soon.

There isn't much happening yet but to my delight I was greated today by the first Crocus Flower of C. vallicola in the open plunge.

I'm wishing everybody a happy growing season from Amsterdam....
