I had 33 years a Perennial Plant nursery for wholesale and private custumors. Now on pensoin and enjoying plant and wildlife around here in Belgium  , in different Europaen countries and a fan of Southern African wildlife. With focus also on botanical findings and loving to photografe Wildlife.

I agree with Paul.  It is indeed Babiana hirsuta.

I am in USDA zone 8b where temperatures almost never fall below 15F -9.4C.  Rainfall 50" 110 cm + but none  June-September.  We seldom get snow; but when it comes we get 30" overnight. Soil is sandy loam with a lot of humus.
