off topic... Treasure under the Plant Table
« on: January 31, 2025, 11:19:00 AM »
Winter has returned here with a vengeance, so I started to tidy up a bit... and took a look at my watering cans.
It started with this inconspicuous (copper) can from the 1960s.
Perfect for the windowsill, very precise watering was possible, but the water capacity was very small.

then I discovered what was probably a replica of a Haws jug made of metal. More water, but bad for pouring (the stream is difficult to control)

... and also a replica of a Schneider can made of plastic. Actually very good, but the plastic is of poor quality :-(

725394-2

... Time to turn to the originals:
first two metal Schneider can for outside.
10 liters (1961?)  and 4.5 liters. The 4.5 liters in particular is absolutely top class :-)

... and a BAT from the former GDR with attachable extension
("Stellagengießkanne" 1957 ??)

a nice Haws, unfortunately only with 1 pint and a paper label, so it will probably have to stay in the display case
(Haws Elliott 1976 - 1982 ? )

725410-1

but that's not a problem, as I now have a Haws with 2 pints :-) Also made of metal and excellent for pouring!

All in all, I have to say that my Hwas 2 pint for indoors and my Schneider 4.5 litres for outdoors are the best jugs I've ever had in my hands :-)

I would be very interested to hear about your experiences. Perhaps you have such treasures too?

Unfortunately, there is almost no literature on the models from Haws and (to a certain extent) Schneider or BAT over time... a shame really....

greetings
Bernd
