I have been asked for advice on how to grow this from seed. Anyone done it?

Look for Perennial, Leontopodium alpinum

I live here in the mountains, and it's not far to the "real" wild edelweiss. Lots of snow in winter, cool summers, high UV radiation, and poor, calcareous soil; otherwise, they turn green and shoot up... and most importantly: snails love edelweiss.
