Wanted - EU - seed/plants of ASARUM
« on: March 18, 2025, 07:47:46 PM »
Hello,
I have been using the internet to search for AVAILABLE seed or plants of ASARUM within the EU.
A few suppliers were found but most plants are not available at this time. Therefore I have decided
to try placing a notice here on the Forum.
Presently I do not have much to offer in exchange. Of course, I am willing to pay a for the items
that may be offered. Thanks in advance.

Are there any particular species or selections you're looking for?

Hi veninco,

I grow Asarum heterotropoides and geophilum in my garden and I have fauriei and pulchrellum (also in the garden) in the greenhouse.
If there is anything interesting for you, feel free to send me a message. All of them should be hardy.

Kind regards,
Carsten

Hello Carsten,
Thank you for your response. I would be interested in acquiring two pcs of the zone 6a species that you can spare.
You may contact me privately (veninco@gmail.com) about the cost involved. Thanks in advance. julius

Jespers Planteskole claims to have Asarum maximum, although I am pretty sure what I received was A. magnificum, we'll see when it flowers later in spring... No matter what it's fully hardy here in Midt-Jylland. Don't know where in Denmark you live, but the entire country is zone 7b to 8b, you have to go across Skagerak to find zone 6a.

Thanks for your info. I live in northern sjælland.
I am quite familiar with Jespers Plante and I will take a look at their website.
Thanks agan.

Far from cheap, but always great plants - RarePlants UK have quite a few species reduced (not by much - no bargains ever leave N Wales). Being in the UK, I have no idea what the costs would be to get them across the water to you (unless you know someone here in the UK who travels...........)

Thank you very much Vinny. I had bought items from Rare Plants MANY years ago. Their plants are quite good even if
they are quite pricey. Now that the UK has left the EU, we are faced with so many import and handling charges.
Hence my 'EU' -tag. There are some good sources in the Netherlands BUT they do NOT mail plants!
In any case, Carsten Settele has agreed to help me.
In any case, thank you very much.

Hello Veninco,
You could try these two, if they are available...
https://www.mes-plantes.com/farguettes/boutique?btsearch=Rechercher&search=asarum
M. Lumen is a long time good quality seller and friend. He will stop his activity at the end of this year. He might have some other asarum (I haven't asked) as mother plants or with few plants available.
Don't hesitate to call him or send him an email !

Good evening Zephirine,
Thank you very much for your input. I have taken a good look at the website (Mes-plantes.com).
It is a great surprise to see that he has quite a few other interesting species (a few uncommon arisaema,
amorphophallus, podophyllum, pinellia, ROHDEA!!, rubus, saxifraga).
This allows me to acquire more than a dozen unusual plants from ONE SOURCE and thereby on postage.

Thank you once again for your help.
Julius
