Hello, Len, a warm welcome to you.
I would recommend you to contact Ger van den Beuken in Holland, who grows super plants and is happy to send mail order to the UK...... Details are:
Ger Van Den Beuken, Zegersstraat 7, 5961 XR, Horst (L) Netherlands.
Tel: 0031 773981542.
He will be pleased to send you a list, I am sure.

Hythe Alpines , which has recently closed for business, was a good source for Dionysias in the UK which will be missed by many :'(

Hi Len, Have you been to one of the meetings at St Chads church hall in Far Headingly the West Yorkshire group of the AGS? They meet at on the second Saturday of the month at 2.30 pm, I think the next meeting is in September. They have an alpine nursery visiting each month and have plant sales from members too. You often see Dionysia, amongst other unusual plants. If you would like to meet other folks with similar interests it's a good place to start, they have a monthly talk and a good book stall. If you get there early you can have a good root through the pick of the plants..
I second Ger Van Den Beuken, he has a great selection!

Len, with your original nickname I thought there had to be a proper banjo connection..... Ian (Bulb Despot) Young has five at the last count! Alan Grainger plays banjo.... you're in company with friends here, and no mistake!!

Hi Lenny,

I know at least two growers close to Munich, Germany, so if you happen to be around here some day send me a PM :-)
One of them also sends plants via mail, but I know nothing about his reputation, so I think it would be best to go there & have a look. The only thing I (think I) know about this genus is that they have to be transplanted when they are very small....

Best regards from Munich,

Hello Lenny,Gerd Stopp offered 16 different species of Dionysias in his spring list, the prices are
very moderate and the plants of a good size. There are also other species in a small amount,
so you must ask him.The adress is:
Gerd Stopp
Shakespearestr.10
09127 Chemnitz
Germany
Tel.(0)371/7750623
Gerd is for me always a valuable source for alpine plants, rliable and generous.

Good luck

Lenny, take Rudi's advice if possible, and visit the nurseries/growers, if you possibly can rather than having them sent. In my (admittedly limited) experience, Dionysias hate to be enclosed in a parcel, even for a single day.

Mickeymuc - Re: Munich - I have already bought plants from Josef Mayr which were mostly satisfactory but would like to see before i buy again and if I am ever in your area I will pm you - thanks.

Rudy - I will write to Gert Stoop as you have suggested - thanks for the info.

Tony Lee - I will gladly take up your offer, would love to see your set up etc and will email you to arrange something - thanks.

Will post some photos when I figure out how to do it??
