AGS Show at Pershore 12th July 2008

As the rain comes down in Aberdeen and the temperature is most un-July-like, I hope that the sun is shining for the AGS Show at Pershore today! I'm sure many Forumists are there enjoying the display and exhibiting - hope to hear later how the day went

Sorry, I do have photos but it takes time which is a little short this week. If I get home at a sensible hour tomorow (unlikely) I'll get them processed and posted. Brian Burrow won the Farrer with a lovely pan of Epipactis palustris. Certificates of Merit went to Peter Farkasch for Campanula tomassiana, Tony Lee for Sempervivum arachnoideum. There were others but I haven't recorded them all. The trophy for weirdest plant went to Androcymbium striatum shown by Joy Bishop. A aggregate won by Paul & Gill Ranson (plus a medal for the small 6 pan). More tomorrow with any luck

I had an email yesterday from Graham Nicholls telling me that Campanula 'Maie Blyth' was exhibited in the UK for the first time (by him) and caused a great deal of interest and discussion, pleasing to me as I had supplied the information about this NZ hybrid for Graham's Campanula book. I wonder if any Forumist will post a picture. Apparently it was photographed and is to go in the next AGS Bulletin.

We certainly thought it was great to see a new Campanula on the bench.  Mind you after ......years of showing I don't think I have been to a show yet where I haven't seen something new to me.  Pershore was a good show its just the lighting that lets it down, great at one end where the spotlights are, near gloom at the other where the Campanulas usually are. Very disappointing.

And before the inevitable question from our far flung membership, Assynt is an area of great beauty, fantastic scenery, stunning geology and few people in the far north west of Scotland.
