Autumn Flowering Cyclamen 2008
« on: July 27, 2008, 07:50:24 PM »
It seems that Autumn is upon us. The first flower has just appeared on C. mirabile (in a pot). This is always the first into flower but never previously this early. Also a couple of flowers on C. hederifolium in the garden.

Some newly arrived cyclamen spent 10 days in a cool garage here before placement in the greenhouse.  Some of these have made precocious growth.  I think the  sudden temperature drop (they came from an unshaded greenhouse) triggered the early start.  Both C graecum and C colchicum have flowers.

Following the early start from C.mirabile, I now have 2 pots of C.graecum coming into flower - about 4 weeks earlier than normal. Bizarrely, some other pots of the same species still have leaves present, admittedly rather yellow. Over the weekend we visited Parham Park (in Sussex) where lots of C. hederifolium were in flower.

The white ones always start before the pink ones here.

I have only pink hederifolium, and it has started to flower 3 weeks ago! Now is in full bloom (I should make a pic, but I have a lot to do after 2 weeks away  ::))

And my persicums flowered all summer like crazy! I wasn't be able to stop watering, because they had many leaves and buds which looked quite sad if the compost dried. One of them, which is a seedling, is beautifully scented. It is now in our cool bedroom with much light, and the 6 flowers fulfill the room with their scent. But only in the morning. At night has no scent at all  :o.

Hello. Kata, we missed you... have you been on holiday? Good break away, I hope?
Funny about the cyclamen persicum scenting in the morning... most things scent more in the evening or mid-day when they get warm.... yes, it's strange.... :-\

White/pink
In 2008 our first hederifolium out was white followed by several pink ones with more white to come yet. Bit like a jam sandwich!
