Computer Problems and\or Advice 2008 to 2011

Probably because in the past if you were having difficulty starting a car, it was very common for the carburettor to become flooded with petrol (you could often smell the petrol) and after a few failed attempts to start the motor, it was a good idea to stop and wait for the petrol to evaporate before trying again. These days most cars don't have old-style carburettors, but fuel injection systems, and I don't know if the same thing applies.

That is an important part of the reason. Another is that the battery recovered. It is a psychological trick really. We never wait long enough unless we do something to distract us.

Yes it is along time ago around 1958 or so. Perhaps we should pull the plug nowadays???

You don't usually have to pull the plug - just push each connection in
to make sure everything is connected.  For instance, today my mouse
wasn't working so I pushed on its connection to the keyboard, the
keyboard's connection to an extension cord, that cord's connection to
a thingy with an array of USB ports, and its connection to the actual
computer.  Then the mouse started working again.

It is easy to see how a connection can become loose, with cats playing,
and people walking by.

I am afraid that I disagree.
The loose connection is something I hardly ever experience. I do not recall it happening at all in 2009
The normal computer problem is a software problem that causes a part of the program to freeze or the whole system to freeze.
That happens to me on a near daily basis.
A re-start helps.
This goes for telephones, microwaves, TV-boxes and other appliances run by computer chips too.

A couple of weeks ago, following a prompt from AVG, I downloaded the newest version of Free AVG, Version 9 build 698. I am finding this version runs very slowly on my computer and the updates process takes an absolute age to complete. Is anyone else having the same problem?

David,I can't help you as I run the Professional version of AVG which is excellent, I think they are trying to faze out the free version so they are not making it easy to use. They don't want to encourage you  Actually for the sake of the few bob it is well worth buying it.

Have you really problem with AVG? Perhaps have you installed two or more antyvirus on one computer? Then computer work slowly or doesn't work at all.

David try uninstalling it and then reinstall it.I would appear  that in the upgrade for some reason the older version did not uninstall all the its components and the new version is competing with it . Uninstall it then restart your computer(very important) and install the new version.

We've received this message from a distressed Forumist and I though it appropriate to post it, and Tech Support's reply here in full......
INSTALLATION PROBLEMS;

Dear Tech Support, 

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0 .

In addition, Husband 1.0  uninstalled many other valuable programmes, such as: 
. Romance 9.5  and 
. Personal Attention 6.5 

and then installed undesirable programmes such as : 

. SKYSPORTS 5.0, 
. Football 3.0  and 
. Golf Clubs 4.1   

Also Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. 

· Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. 

What can I do?

First, keep in mind, 
. Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while 
. Husband 1.0 is an operating system. 

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. 
· If that application works as designed , Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewellery2.0 and Flowers 3.5. 

However, remember, over-use of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5 , Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6.1 . 
· Please note that Beer 6. 1 is a very bad programme that will download the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta. 

 

 

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.) 

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 programme. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0 .

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great programme, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend 
. Cooking 3.0  and 
. Hot Lingerie 7.7
