Alan, we had a discussion in the Members Area a while back.  It seems to me that the default "Forum Time" is actually British Summer Time.  I clicked on "Profile" and then "Look and layout" and "Autodetect" and it changed the offset to -1 hour bringing the time showing on the top right of my screen onto GMT. See here http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3649.msg122207#msg122207.  Whether I will have to change it in February I havn't discovered yet !

This Forum is used internationally so allowing each to set their time zone seems fine by me.
I have no idea about the BST/GMT thing and the only answer I got from Fred before was that each should set their own profile time offest.

It is up to each person to set their time using the method described once more by Richard.

Well following the instructions worked but it still seems a bit weird to me and I'm pretty sure I did not have to do anything in previous winters to make my forum time the same as Scottish local time.  Will I have to make another adjustment when the clocks go forward???
Almost in Scotland.

I think setting the forum to GMT and keeping it there would make sense. Its current setting of BST is puzzling.

I have checked, again, with Fred, who tells me he has no control over this at all.

It is what it is... as someone once said..... I'm saying it now.  :-X
So, for the avoidance of doubt:
Yes, there seems to  have been a change to the forum system   clock setting, wehich has only become apparent lately because of a SMF system change.
Yes, it may well be irritating, daft, whatever.
and No: there is nothing we can do about it.  :(

Hi I noticed this computer thread seems quite long. If this is any help it is one of the most used computer forums in the UK. Computer active forums is based round the top selling computer magazine in the UK.

It might be useful for future problems. See link http://forums.computeractive.co.uk/.To register in small black writing below the log in part saying register. I have found they are great if you point out you are still a beginner with computer things.

Cheers David.

Ruddy heck!  Now I have had to undo the change I made the other week as the forum time has reverted to UK time.  There may be nothing Fred can do about this but he could ask whoever can do something about it to 'stop messin' about'!
Almost in Scotland.

Just before Christmas I resolved my computer problems by replacing my laptop. The old computer ran WindowsXP, the new one Windows 7. I have a slide scanner that is compatible with WidowsXP but not with Windows 7. Now, I have found an application disc for Works 8 which can only have come with the original computer.
My question is - can I try to install the Works 8 application on this laptop without screwing up Windows 7? It would be be nice be able to use the scanner but not worth taking any risks over.
