Are you quite sure you cannot run the scanner?
I know it is a stupid question but there might be a usable driver somewher in the OP.

If not try one of th download sites.
A search for drivers will turn up drivers in a lot of places.
Some of them free and good, bona fide and from the manufacturer of the device.
some of them free but suspect
Some try to charge you for accessing the free site!

I found that Canon did not upgrade the driver to my old A2-printer.
Thus I kept an old computer running W97 and ported all big prints to that.
Then by pure chanse I found that there is an XP driver for the machine supplied by Microsoft included in XP and I could run it from the computer I usually use.

With scanners there is also the choice of third party drivers - http://www.hamrick.com/
Might offer better performance than the original makers drivers.

Gote's response prompted me to go on the web to look for alternative driver software. What I did find out is that a lot of people are having the same problem as me and the main computer forums don't have an answere. Actually, I am finding that I am getting usable images by using Ian Young's camera method, not nearly as professional as Ian but better than messing around with the copier.

I use "Viewscan", the Hamrick driver.  It works well for me but you do need to take the trouble to learn how to use it (Love it) and to get the right settings.  I would recommend it.

I would second what has been said about Hamrick software.  I originally used the software suppled by Nikon but was not impressed.  The Hamrick Vuescan is available as a free trial.  It will not cost you anything to download it and see if your scanner works.  Most applications that work with Vista will work with Windows 7.  It will not cost you anything to try and if it works then the paid software is not expensive.

I have just been on to the Hamrick website and downloaded an update for Vista 64 bit for my Nikon LS-5000 scanner.  After my Windows XP collapsed on me a few days ago, I thought I was stuck.  Nikon had no 64 bit drivers and left it at that.  Now I am back in business. Hamrick have also updated drivers for Windows 7 and a list of all scanners that will work is posted on their site.

Weird problem:
When I start the forum website I sometimes (like today) miss on the front page the section with bulbs ( Crocus, Bulbs General etc.)
I use Firefox.

I am able to find the pages only by reading recent posts then, but it is strange.

I wonder if Firefox is pulling the front page from a version where you had the Bulb section "closed", that is to say, only showing the heading not the list of threads? It would be easy to overlook that section if that were the case. I have all the sections marked open all the time, and when I just closed them all to see what the page looked like, I discover that it would be easy to miss out some sections altogether because the page looks so very different.

I attach  screen grabs of  the different looks of the two pages.... the open page cannot be reduced enough to show all the sections on the grab....
If you have by chance "closed" the bulb section, might this be the answer?

The home page for the forum is:

http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/

I wonder if you get any different results by clicking on that link, compared to how you currently navigate to the forum. I wondered if auto complete was tacking stuff on when you typed in the URL - anyway keep an eye on the URL/address at the top of the browser.

Type SRGC forum into Google and the top result today takes you straight to the old forum...

I'm getting fed up with BT Yahoo broadband going on and off in recent days, usually when I'm trying to look at pics on the forum. Anyone else on BT Yahoo and been having problems recently with losing their broadband then having it come back on again, then off again? I'm wondering if it's a denial of service attack by hackers, or some other problem with the BT servers. Whatever it is, it's getting veryy annoying!

We lost our broadband the other day for several hours, Martin...we're on BTYahoo.  I HOPE it is not going to become an ongoing problem. :-\

Maggi, when I just now came in I saw at the Bulb section a + instead of a -, I tried to open on a new screen and this worked o.k. (I always use My Favorites to go to the Forum directly!)
But when I tried again by using My Favorites to open I got the same error.
Then I tried to come in via Google to SRGC and opened the New Forum, but at Bulb the + was there too.
I solved the problem now by deleting the Favorite and making a new Favorite.
So far it works o.k. now.

No problems I'm aware of here in the East Midlands of England with BTYahoo going off and on........although saying this is probably tempting fate :(
