Next week Ian is going to remove all his photos to a portable hard drive, I think that will help quite a bit, then the plan is to add some gizmo or other to the blasted machine which he says will be a big help  :-\It is an extra memory wotsit, I think... as you can tell, I am very backward in such matters : just as well I don't drive a car, isn't it? Can you imagine my problems with coping with an engine?  :P :-[ :'(

To all you people suffering in the hell that is Microsoft. I say again, it is not too late; buy a Mac,  install Safari or Firefox & walk off into the sunset.

The extra memory sounds like a good idea. The photos on the hard-drive probably aren't the problem though. They're taking up space on the hard-drive, which isn't what runs (or shouldn't unless you're very short of space) your programmes. The programmes, and the things you do in them like writing posts, are run on the RAM memory chip (or central processor unit) which these days is usually at least 1 Gb, but on older machines may only have a fraction of a Gb in memory. I expect Ian is talking about up-grading the CPU memory, which the programmes run on. You should notice a difference straight away. Fingers crossed.

It is true, since swapping to Mac after years of being PC it is such a relief not to be plagued by problems and anti virus software slowing up my computer :o

No more 'doctors' trying to patch things up! No more crashes!

Apple stores are full of helpful, knowledgeable people and you can try a Mac out and take it back if you don't like it!

All this of course doesn't help you Maggi - I do hope someone can help you soon.

Robin - I'm on Windows at work  :'( and Apple at home ;D.  You know where I'd rather be.  Highly recommended.  Off to get a Time Capsule this weekend.

John, there's no discussion  ;)  My other half imported the first Apple computers in to the UK but because of running a business the PC was the way to go and Apple have only recently made it possible to change.  It's just such a different experience and you feel your Mac is on your side trying to make things run smoothly, not moody like a PC   ;D

Maggi, taking into account the hours you put in looking after the Forum you deserve a brand spanking new computer, with all the bells and whistles available, of whatever type you want, ON THE CLUB. And I'm not joking.

My own laptop is PC whilst Carol uses Mac. Mine is still in hospital with serious swine flu so I am temporarily using a Mac. The Mac is much nicer to use, as everyone says, but there are advantages in having both. Some the software for accessories can only be used with Mac and some only with PC. If we could only have the one computer I would be quite happy with the Mac.

Well said David, I felt the same but wasn't sure how to express it so eloquently   ;)  Maybe the Membership could go up a bit to help towards it to spread the cost over the Users - or will I be shouted down?  ::)  I'm game anyway to contribute as without Maggi online the whole thing would be unthinkable  :o

Your suggestions of a new machine are most welcome and may yet need to be put to the Web Boss
(though the BD/WebBoss is notoriously stingy!!) and the Club Council..... but I have not remotely given up hope of beating this machine into submission yet!  A few more wallops with the trusty handbag and I may have it running as sweetly as a nut again!  :-X  :D
