Newcastle Show at Ponteland- 11th October 2009
« on: September 12, 2008, 03:26:30 PM »
The Show Secretaries for this joint AGS/SRGC Show, Mike and Pearl Dale, have had the misfortune to have been flooded very badly in the last week......accordingly, alternative arrangements have been made to receive Entries for the Show: You may now make your entries to Alan Newtoneither by post to 12 Main Street, Ponteland NE20 9NR, by Telephone to 01661 871974 or via Email at   alan.alpine@btinternet.com
I believe that emails sent to Pearl&Mike.Dale@agsgroups.org will be re-directed, but perhaps the best idea is to contact Alan Newton direct.
Please pass this info to anyone you know who may be likely to enter the show.

Sincere sympathies to Pearl and Mike, who face a long and unpleasant task in restoring their home and property to good order again. :-*

Just a few pictures I took at the show today.

First, an arrangement that looked lovely, with gentians and clematis, a perfect table centrepiece.

Next, Brian Smethurst showing off his wonderful Sax. fort. 'Early Ruby'

Best in show - Cyclamen rohlfsianum shown by the Wallis's (No Farrer awarded this year)

Eriogonum holmgrevii (Please excuse any misspelling, its hard to read the writing) along with detail of the plant

Just a few more...

Empodium flexile, a plant I had not encountered before

Gentiana 'Amethyst'

Gentiana 'Blue Silk'

Hyacinthoides ligulata - heavenly scented

Sorry I couldn't take more, too many people to talk to, too little time.... but I did manage to find a few plants to buy ::)

Hi Maggi,  I always seem to get my posts in the wrong spot.  Could you work your magic and move it here please?

Edit:  Hello, Christine: 'tis done! My pleasure!

Time you were in bed Maggie, yes both well. Ponteland show was a splendid one, far more colour than any of us had expected, a v interesting mix of plants, some surprising ones in good form. There should have been a Farrer for the cyclamen rolfsianum but such is life

Class 2 Gentiana 'Amethyst'                     Alan Newton
