Has Crocus sieberi nivalis now been elevated to species level (C. nivalis, SRGC #2007/1018)?
Quote from: ashley on October 12, 2008, 12:01:46 PMHas Crocus sieberi nivalis now been elevated to species level (C. nivalis, SRGC #2007/1018)? Anyone?Full species status for this taxon seems unlikely given that BM (The Plantsman, June 2002) cites variability in wild populations that overlaps C. sieberi sublimis.
Ashley, can't tell you anything about the botanical level of sieberi ssp nivalis, but I CAN tell you, if the seed germinates now it's likely to be NOT C. sieberi which is a spring flowering species.Crocus robertianus is variable from white to blue. I've also seen bicolored forms and plants withnarrow petals as well as rounded petals.
