First snow falls of the winter
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:00:41 PM »
Today we awoke to be greeted by the first snow fall of the season here in Aberdeen.  Bitter winds and a brief flurry in the last ten minutes suggest that there is more to come, quite soon.  :-\

I think Kristl told us last week that she had had the first light snowfall there her garden in North Gower, Ontario Canada,  in Reply 426 October 23rd :

We got it also. Thankfully it's all gone now except for high ground but it's a very clear sky tonight and my Pelargoniums dont have a winter home :(

Also our first slight snowfall here this morning, but quite a lot in the hills - we're close to sea level near the Trondheimsfjord which never freezes with a minimum of about 6C in winter keeping us warmer than otherwise.

Just a brief spell at lunchtime. Looked worse than it was. Gone in minutes.
So that's Winter gone then. :)
It was almost as long as the Summer. 8)

No snow - it is very rare here - but frost on the cars early in the evening after a very chilly day; however, it was dry and bright and was a nice day in the garden.

Maggi,
it never gets cold enough here for the possums to have to wear socks! ;D
Looking forward to a long hot summer unfortunately :( They are already talking about the fire season here!
cheers

I am amazed to hear you have had snow,, Here in Harstad, North Norway, we have seen nothing of it so far, except in the mountains, and I have only had one frosty night with -2C.

Now they say however , that we may get this autumn's first snowfall tonight.

We only got -3.7° Horray. :)
However, it meant 5-7mm ice on the ponds and I had to make the move of water lily pots from the front pond (that must be empty in the winter) to the deep pond scattering all the ice.
Now, of course we will have no more ice until Christmas so the hurry was unnecessary.

We had -3.8° here in Aberdeen last night.... the first really chilly night of the season. Beautiful bright sunny day today, which is very much appreciated!

Frost here Saturday night at 0c and maybe slightly below. Yesterday was cold with a stiff wind blowing at +5c and then it dropped to -1c. The Nerine buds look no worse for the wear. No frost in sight for the next week and temperatures in the mid-teens.

Sorry I'm a bit late with these pictures of last week's snow but I wanted to share them with you and I'm a bit slow at getting the pics on to the computer, resizing etc.  They were all taken close to my house last Tuesday.
