Hi Hans,

I don't keep the old AGS seed lists for more than a year or two so I can't help you there.

I also don't remember whether the seed was from the wild collected or the garden collected section.

Certainly it is a late flowerer, in March as some of the others go past their best. Jo

Would be interesting to see the two forms side-by-side. ;D

This image was taken last spring of a clump of Galanthus ikariae which has grown unmolested in the nursery for more than 20 years.

What do you want to grow side by side? woronowii and ikariae or ikariae? From what I've seen there isnt much variation in ikariae - yet!

I continually find it odd that people who are interested in snowdrops don't know where to buy them! :-\

I continually find it odd that people who are interested in snowdrops don't know where to buy them! :-\

I tend to think that it is the fault of those newspapaer articles which speak of the fever and passion for snowdrops, making comparisons to Tulipomania in times past and generally whipping up folk into a frenzy of acquisitiveness...these folk are probably not even really keen gardeners, they just have the desire to acquire built up and find the object of this desire in the place that folk turn to nowadays to buy things... anything.... Ebay ....find the starting price is quite modest ( remember, they don't know what YOU know) and whoosh.... before you know it auction frenzy hits.

In the same way at these Galas and special auction events..... there are folk there who will be able to get these white gems by swapping or knowing who to know etc., but there will also be those who are able to gain access to theseevents but who are outside the "inner circle" and so,once more, the stage is set for this feeding frenzy of buy buy buy..... Daft? Of course it is... it ALL is... but I think that's how it happens.
