good comments Steve,I agree

and about the exchange register:
for the forumists that only grow snowdrops for a few years it is no option to exchange.
at first one buy`s the 'common'snowdrops like Merlin,Atkinsii,Lady Elphinstone etc.In a few years they have multiplied but you all grow them so no exchange is possible. In the meantime one buy`s more exclusive drops but most of you got those too.so no exchange.
Why not selling snowdrops,at reasonable prices?good for the ones who start a collection and for the sellers money to buy a new one.

Wonderfully entertaining bit of forum today,  thanks Steve et al.  The best thing about ebay is that the plants don't arrive with a price ticket on them.   Just think how fast I usually have to move to disguise (from my husband ) the price of plants bought from the Wisley plant centre etc, then compare that to prices on ebay  :o :o :o I'd have to move faster than the speed of light in case he caught a glimpse !!!

I like the club system of the plant name on one label and price and seller on the second. I just need to remove one label. Then there are the ones you can cut the top bit off.  :D

I've stopped just removing the label altogether cos I kept forgetting the name of the thing I'd bought.  ;D ;D

 Oh, yes, done that, too!

Too true:  the ripost used for new frocks ..."What? This old thing? Had it for years"  ...doesn't really work for  plants, does it?  ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\

Diane i think your idea of a snowdrop exchange sounds great.

yes it is allready done 'behind the scenes' but i very much enjoy exchanging snowdrops, it saves you money and helps others obtain that snowdrops they have been after, and you get something you have wanted.
its also a nice way to increase your Friends in the snowdrop world.

so perhaps if something is set up like this it will help out us growers who just want to collect snowdrops without going bankrupt ::)

perhaps i can make a example by listing all my spares when they have all have emerged, if others can do this in a thread or something then that would help.

rob

Rob, I have already answered this point about a snow drop exchange.
I repeat, for the avoidance of doubt, there is already a great deal of swapping or simple gifting, going on behind the scenes.  You, and others, already state quite clearly in various threads, what plants you seek. There is no need for anything further in the way of a snowdrop or any other formal exchange.... neither will there be.

Those buying and selling on Ebay are at perfect liberty so to do and while it may be amusing to discuss what are considered extraordinary prices for wee bulbs, it is unfair to suggest that anyone choosing to buy or sell in such a manner is acting selfishly or unfairly by their actions.
Put this another way, I will give an example which I hope will illustrate the weakness of some points made...... If I walk into a Ferrari show-room and fall in love with a TestaRossa and say to the salesman," I cannot afford that car, I have only ten pounds,  but I love it, I want it ...you have a show room full of them.... give me one for ten pounds"
....at the very least the salesman will laugh me out of the show-room...  :P  Why should a plant seller be any different? To argue for such "charity" is to offend, I would think, those generous and selfless growers who  already are so kind as to help others.

I think one has to be a Galanthus magnate to be able to keep up with Ebay prices. 8)

Martin - You're not alone. I went to the UK ebay site for the first time yesterday. Haven't a clue how to proceed beyond what's for sale and don't intend to find out.

Stay pure.

I take it you've got past the www.ebay.co.uk and then searched for "Galanthus" bit? Click on the item you fancy, fill in your bid. and place bid. It then asks you to fill in ID (your made up unique identity) and password. If you are not registered you follow the procedure outlined on the page.
