when it is shown to be wrong, then an apology might be appropriate. :(
When was it shown to be wrong? ???

Splitting hairs, Anthony ..... point is seller has been shown to have 100% approval rating by his buyers so assumption is that the 'drop is right .  :)

Thanks John

How does it compare to woronowii?

.....Where is Alan when you need him?   :D

Regards

John

I had gone to RHS Wisley for their 'Snowdrop Spectacular'.  Here is a picture of Green Light growing in-situ when I found it on 25th January 2004.  You can see the contrast with the surrounding ordinary Galanthus nivalis [Edit: Well I hoped you could but the first picture I tried didn't work so I have substituted a close-up].  When I went back a few weeks later a lot more of the ordinary G. nivalis had grown up around and through it, making it harder to spot.  I would say the green is similar to woronowii, but I have seen quite a bit of variation in woronowii, from a bright shining grass-green to something rather duller and darker.

Alan

Thanks for the explanation.  I think I must have missed the original thread on this.

You certainly see where the name 'Green Light' came from.

About a year ago I had problems with a seller regarding a mis-named dactylorhiza.

It was sent to me dormant so therefore took a long time until it bloomed & I could see it wasn't what it should have been.

The seller would not respond in any way.

Ebay only allow 60, or is it 90 days, anyway far to short a time for a buyer to lodge a complaint when dealing with dormant bulbs & tubers etc.

I asked them to extend this period but I'm afraid they did not see the need to do this.

There are many good & honest sellers on eBay that deserve their 100% feedback & I have had many excellent plants from them, however as in all walks of life there are rogues hoping to trap the unwary.

Who's not selling on Ebay these days? ::) I see Avon are now listing snowdrops. I'll have to get on to make some money.

Times are hard for everyone, I know that, but it is a fact that times are harder now, and have been for a long time, for specialist nurseries ...... I'm not surprised that someare doing whatever they can to b ring in some extra money and if Ebay is a way to do that, then it is a good idea.... some of my best friends are nurseryfolk.... I don't want to see any of them go under in these grotty times for business. :(

Quite, Maggi. I must say I feel sorry for Janis. With the weak pound, his prices for UK buyers have shot up since last year, and that's bound to impact on ordering. His prices are in Euro, and at around 1.5 Euro to the £ in past years, it was quite good psychologically to see a 6 Euro price in his catalogue and be able to knock it down to £4. Now that 6 Euro price would be almost £6. I'm still going to steel myself and put in an order though. Apart from anything else, I feel duty bound to help keep Janis, and all the other specilaist nurseries, going. There's few enough of them these days!

You'll note how I neatly justified, in that last post, spending money I can't really spare on bulbs. I'm good at this!

Martin, you've missed a career as a politician with that skill with spin and sophistry. You've convinced yourself AND me! ;D

All too many great nurseries have to give up the ghost..... witness the excellent nursery or our own Fred Admin. Fred and Monika worked like dogs to make a super nursery, growing a great range of really good plants but were battered down by the economic situation. You couldn't have asked for better plants.... grown at 900 feet,( approx.- on freezing hillside) tough as old nails, tight, hardy, terrific and it still didn't work out.  Heartbreaking, it really is.

Ah but I was a politician, Maggi. Former Green Party district councillor, town councillor, chair of planning committe, chair of policy committee and deputy mayor of Stroud. Too thin skinned, though, to stay in local politics. One of my pet hates is people who get into politics and then won't do anything risky or try to change anything for fear they'll upset people and won't get re-elected. My political philosophy was a bit more on the lines of guerilla politics - get in then make a difference even if that means you're chucked out again. I helped saved some important trees in the town landscape, nearly went to jail over the poll tax, helped stop through-traffic in the town, and some other stuff, not all of it popular, then I got out, got my life back and started having time for the garden again!   ;D

Can I just say, in case anyone is wondering, that I am not the person selling snowdrops as Jimlad21. Wish I was!
