Daphne gnidium?
« on: January 08, 2009, 07:42:28 PM »
Can anyone tell me if this is Daphne gnidium or Daphne gnidioides? This photograph is from Akçali Dağlari, mountains just west of Bolkar Dağlari, between Silifke en Anamur, S Turkey.

Not sure if this answers your question completely, but this is an extract from Robin Whites book," Daphnes. A Practical Guide for Gardeners."In it he says how to tell the 2 apart. Hope this helps.See....

It all seems to be based on the twist of the leaf, and the colour.

Mmm... no, I think that is the difference between the Cretan and Turkish f orms of Daphne gnidioides, rather than between the two species.
Only mention of Daphne gnidium is this:

so.... the only info about D. gnidium is that it is a straggly shrub native to southwest europe  :P

and this, about its ancient herbal uses (  :-X ??? )
