AGS Loughborough Non Competitive February 7th
« on: February 04, 2009, 11:12:19 AM »
Its the first AGS show of 2009 at Loughborough this Saturday and we'll be there subject to the forecast of snow, ice etc; and "man flu". Its a great problem to find any flowering sales plants this week so we have been gently persuading bulbs into flower, by sitting trays inside our utility room. After just 14 hours spring arrives. It's also some-ones birthday here today. Hope to see some of you on Saturday (??), we'll have a small display which will hopefully include a tray of Narcissus 'Treble Chance'.

All hands on deck with cameras I hope.

Yes Mark, and they are both in the same pot, but I think Mick's hanging on to them? If Rob has any left, I'll ask him to bring one to the Glasgow show (assuming he'll be there?).

I'm giving a lecture near Chesterfield on Sunday - pity I have made arrangements with family for Saturday, I could have made a visit to Loughborough en-route.  Hope its a good day.

I will be in attendance at the Glasgow show on 2 May and wife Jackie will be at Norfolk AGS on the same day. Orders can be brought to any shows we attend given 72 hours notice. Oh and we've just accepted a late invitation to bring sales plants to the Edinburgh show on April 4 - my eldest daughter is travelling with me & helping on that day too.

Its show time!! The van is loaded on Friday afternoon, a bit more colour than expected and now its a wait & see game with the weather. The snow is melting fast here but could be very icy first thing tomorrow morning.

This years Loughborough non competitive show was a quiet affair, the weather certainly reduced numbers of visitors, plants on display and nurseries attending. In all six nurseries/stall holders were unable to attend - "snowbound". Those remaining did a steady trade until 2.30pm when the decision was made to close early, snow had been reported falling from Lincolnshire to Scotland - Cath & Terry from Edrom had made the journey all the way from Coldingham and we like them were keen to make an early return journey. Only got 5 minutes to look around but i did note that there was a good selection of snowdrops for sale, some were very expensive and certainly over my budget. Keith & Tim Lever from Aberconwy nursery had there usual extensive selection of rare & difficult alpines and Jon Evans put up a fantastic display of prints in the artistic section. Congratulations must go to Doreen Webster and her team for enabling the event to go ahead in very difficult circumstances.

And my sincere thanks to Rob for taking even a few pictures, in what must have been exceedingly difficult weather conditions. Amazing that the Show could take place at all. I hope it went well for you Rob, business-wise.

Anne, that looks like a REALLY NICE birthday selection. Worth the snowy trip to the Show.

Lesley, sales were quite good despite the low numbers attending and quite welcome for some nurseries as this was their first income since last November. Below three more plants that were on the open displays - i think the Narcissus belong to Anne ??
