These were intended for a trough which hasn't happened yet but they look pretty in pots as well. Santa brought me Malcolm McGregor's book 'Saxifrages: A Definitive Guide to the 2000Species, Hybrids and Cultivars which fired my enthusiasm and I had to try a few of the easier Porophyllum Hybrids. 'Your Success' and 'Love Me (both x poluanglica); 'Jenkinsae' (x irvingii); 'Gregor Mendel' (x apiculata) and 'Aretiastrum' (x boydii)

Maggi and David H, thanks a million and many of them. But as to easing my distress.....I'm not sure. Knowing they are forbidden to me is raising my blood pressure to the nth degree.

Absolutely stunning, superb, happy and glorious. I can see my reflection in the monitor. It's turning green as I type.

What makes me especially angry - after 16 years - is that I imported approx 180 species and hybrids back in 1993, brought them all home with me from various sources in the UK and the Czech Republic, only to have MAF destroy the lot during the inspection process, through sheer bl...y incompetence. Never mind the cost, it was the loss of stock which was and remains, irreparable. Long story and my blood boils every time I think of it, which I'm doing now as a result of seeing these amazing collections.

Don't hesitate to post more pictures though, and I'll look at the given links. Many thanks for those. I'd better join the Sax Society (been meaning to for years) and have access to some seeds.

Ian, your plants are beautiful, is that a giant bee or are the flowers really, REALLY tiny

No Helen it's a normal sized bee. The sax may be smaller as they are growing in tufa and will be lean and hungry

What is that plant next to the yellow flowered one with cordate leaves? A cyclamen?

Hi Michael
I have a few other plants growing at this end of the alpine house. The yellow plant is Eranthis 'Guinea Gold' and you are right in front is
Cyclamen greacum Album it has a good leaf patern.
Just spent the day getting Saxifrage ready for Loughborough AGS Show on Saturday.

Well, though there seem to be a fair amount of bad weather and snow around in Scotland, there is nothing on the news, so I assume that England is escaping this bad spell and that there will be no weather barriers to all enjoying a super day out to Loughborough .... have a good day, David, good luck, too!
