Galanthus ketzkhovelii
« on: March 17, 2009, 10:34:55 AM »
Hi - I will post here today a new topic for a species Galanthus - I think it is later easier to find as when it is in Galanthus March 2009

Here is a other rare snowdrop from Georgia :

Galanthus ketzkhovelii

This plants comes original from the Loc. Class. !
....I know that similar plants are sometimes underway but I have always my doubts....

Enjoy
Hans

That is quite distinctive with its upturned edges. Thanks for posting Hans. 8) You are indeed fortunate to be able to grow these.

Hans, are you also growing G. lagodechianus? And if so, do you see any significant difference to G. ketzhovelii?

Thomas ,

Yes I grow G.lagodechianus from several locations ( all true material )
One big difference to G.ketzkhovelii is G.lagodechinus flowers much earlier .
A other aspect that G.lagodechinaus comes from lower habitats ( around 800 m ) - G.ketzkhovelli comes from more than 1800 m.
Both have a applanate vernation -but G.lagodechianus has broader leaves with a little stripe in the middle .

I know that botanist has made G.ketzkhovelli made as synonym to G.lagodechianus ( same is with G.kemulariae ).....but I have doubt that those botanists have ever visit the habitats .....

Thanks for the explanation Hans, everwhere on the internet seems to have G.ketzkhovelii as a synonym for G.lagodechinus which confused me for one ::)

Brian ,

no problem !

I'm in meantime very carefully all to believe  ;D what is written in books or in internet !
Look -same sitution was earlier for G.artjuschenkoae ( it was written as a synonym for G.transcaucasicus) ....now after visiting of some western botanists :
it is a own species ( and it is really different )

I will try to post more pics of species Galanthus in next years  8)
