Chamonix
« on: April 30, 2009, 11:56:21 PM »
I am considering spending a few days in Chamonix 12-16 June.  A quick search found no references on the site :o
I would be interested to hear views from anyone who has been there.  What was good, what was not good, plants to look out for, travel tips, any advice welcome.
Feel free to post pics too - if I go I will of course post a report here ..... right here in fact!

Tony,

Here

you have 8 photos (from second beginning) from Chamonix.

you can reserve cable railway on Aguille du Midi and then on Punta Hellbronner, then you don't need to queue for the tickets  :)

hello Tony from Southern Oregon, just thought I would have a look at the forum.

We went to that area last year in the last week of June. We had been unable to find much information beforehand and I think the reason is that it is quite poor for alpine plants. Lots of orchids and lots of grass but nice alpines were few and far between. We saw a good number of species but in very small numbers. Having said that it was great walking in the  most wonderful scenery imagineable and we had a great holiday.

A big minus was that the prices were absolutely horrendous and that was before our currency collapsed completly

Thanks TW - good to hear you are off travelling again .... or are you emigrating :D
The lack of replies seemed to be saying something - which you have confirmed.  I am now looking seriously at an Inghams trip to Soldeu.  Good walking and flowers in Val D'Incles even though it will be too late for the narcissus.
Thanks for the feedback.  Hope you are enjoying the Oregon Trail.
