Hans,  Amazing 8) are you growing Hippeastrum papilio outside, no wonder you you are showing a  :D I would be so pleased with myself if I had that in flower.

I make nothing special with my H.papilio ....in summer in shade ( with my Clivia ) and then since October inside of my house ....last weekend I saw to my surprise the flowerstem with the bud ....

Noooooooooooo :o I can not grow H.papilio outside ...here grows Bananas ,tobacco,wine ....but not Hippeastrum !
Those wintergrowers are for me more succsessful with flowers ...they are near always green ...

Hi Hans, my mum just told me they are house plants for us :-[ and she said I have one, don't know what its name is but I have only had leaves for the past year, I will maybe look after it a bit better and see if it gives me a flower, mums come in handy.

Hans,

Recently (last week) I had what is supposed to be Hippeastrum papillio x cybister flowering for me.  Very similar to papillio to my eye, but not as broad in the petals as the other form of papillio I grow I think, although I should really go back and check my old pics of the other one.  Attached is a pic anyway, so if anyone feels that it isn't a hybrid with cybister please let me know.

never saw a crossing between cybister and papilio. I am surprised, it looks really good, it seem to have the best of both in colour and flower shape.

Thanks Hans.  I thought the more slender petals should indicate a hybrid, but then there are always strains of things that are different to the usual, although still being the species.  That is why I asked.  I do have a hybrid from another source, and from memory it was more spidery again.  I'll see if I can find pictures, if anyone is interested?

It has an elegance about it.  I only had two flowers on this stem, and apparently the flowers should be in 4's and much larger than the flowering this year.  It is only the first flowering and the bulb may still not be mature enough for full size.  I was given the bulb last year.
