Seed Collections eg cc****
« on: May 15, 2009, 04:06:11 PM »
I've got several packets of seeds that have germinated that are from overseas seed collections.  Is it possible to get any further information on these seeds ?  I've got seeds with CCnnnn numbers and similarly ES numbers.

I tried searching the Forums for an answer to this thinking someone must have surely asked it before but seemingly not.

Cheers
Rob

Rob,
Your best bet for the 'CC' collections, is to contact Chris Chadwell himself. I think his contact details are in the SRGC Journal. If not, let me know.

Rob, if the ES numbers are on Meconopsis, they may be from Evelyn Stevens  ???

Thanks Giles and Maggi - you've given me starting points, and yes the ES number is on a Mec. so that's an easy one as I've got two contacts in the Mec. group.

Chris Chadwell is proving a little more elusive so if someone does have a contact point I would appreciate it.  I've a couple of acers with CC numbers and it would be useful at his stage to know what sort of size they are likely to make.   I'm not finding Chris in 4 of the recent Journals, and Mr Google seems to know a bit about him, and lots of his namesakes, but nothing directly.

Cheers

Thanks Giles - got it.  It does seem a bit surprising given the amount of seed that appears on all the major seed exchanges with Collection numbers that they aren't published, either generally or through the Seed Exchanges themselves.

OK it's always interesting to experiment with something new, but as there is information available as to the plants' basic characteristics, it does seem strange - and actually unhelpful - that these are not made available.

I'm of the opinion that the Seed Exchange needs to be more active in this as a service to its customers.
