I expect you remember this message, posted by Ian in March....  in the YES!!! The "I'm so happy" thread.

I'm so happy because I passed my CBT test for my 125 scooter in a freezing cold Aberdeen today.
Now I have to look forward to my chemotherapy on Monday - Nil desperandum carburundum illegitami as the say in dog latin.
And this reply, posted by Ian after forumists had expressed their good wishes to him for his chemotherapy treatment:

Thanks for all your messages of support folks, it means a lot.
Unfortunately this one can't be beat - it is too far on.
I can only fight it with the chemo to give me more time with the family.
And I can assure you that no one will fight this more than me.

I have this evening received the tragic news from his wife, Irene, that Ian passed away on Saturday morning.... the day of the Aberdeen show...he had been telling Irene about the plants he had  hoped to enter in the Show.
I will show here the notice of his death from the newspaper:

MINTY (Huntly):  Peacefully, at Rothieden Ward, Jubilee Hospital, on Saturday, May 16, 2009, after an illness bravely fought, Ian George (Pog), aged 40 years, loving husband of Irene Pennet, dear dad of Sarah, Emma and Morgan, much loved son, son-in-law, brother and grandson. Funeral service in Strathbogie Parish Church, on Friday, May 22, at 11 a.m., thereafter to Huntly Cemetery. All friends are respectfully invited. Donations if desired, at church door, in aid of Rothieden Ward

Ian was a really great bloke, kind and funny and he and his beloved wife Irene were so proud of their beautiful daughters... and of course, of the latest  member of the Minty Clan.... Daisy the Dog.
I cannot imagine how they will cope without him and I know that Ian will have fought as best he could to stay with his adored Girls.
I know you will all join with me in sending Irene, Sarah, Emma and Morgan and all Ian's family, our fondest condolences.

That is awful.  We were so hopeful that the chemo would work, and he was always so positive (which can't have been easy in his position).  Thanks for letting us know Maggi (and Irene).
Cheers.

It's a ghastly time for losing friends , Alan, I've seldom known one like it.  The roll call for us is seven in the last ten days. Just awful.
Condolences were, of course, sent to the Dublin Group and to Joan's daughter. Many of us had met Joan in Ireland, and I expect, on her visits to the UK.
So many sad families in our thoughts.

Please may I offer my condolences too. No one can really know what it is like to lose a loved one until it happens, and no, time is not the great healer everyone says it is. An irreplaceable loss leaves a gaping hole in your life for ever, but good friends will always be there, and hopefully not forget those who are left.

Not fair, not fair, that anyone so young should die of cancer leaving such sadness behind for his family to endure. With everyone Maggi, please pass along my sympathy and kindest regards.
