I know that Hans is on hols.... I just wasn't sure whether anyone would be interested in seeing the progression of the buds emerging.  It wasn't a lonely plea from someone feeling unloved ;) but rather just finding out whether it was of interest to anyone seeing the process?

Maggi and George,

Yes, the flower opened.  I took pics as it progressed from memory, so I will see if I can go and find them and post them within the next few days.  Yes, the flowerhead opened George.  The flowers themselves are small and yellow, surrounded by the big red bracts.  The flowerhead stands to maybe 50 or 60cm, I've never actually measured it.  They flower every year for me.

This is my S.puniceus today. It did not flower this Year. Is it normal that it grows so big?

I took this picture at the botanic garden in Brussels, Belgium - the plants there must have been about 100cm tall.

Yes, it grows like that, although I don't think mine are quite as elongated.  Is yours grown in some shade?  Mine in the shade do tend to get taller like your.

Gail,

That I think is a Scadoxus multiflorus (or multiflorus katherinae?) rather than puniceus?  Mine are nowhere near as fancy as that in flower.  ;D

I've just found some and prepared a couple for posting.  Here are a couple from when it was fully open last year.  Exactly the same bulb as in the original emerging picture.....  Please excuse the background in the long shot.... my front stairs complete with their myriad pots.  ::)  There's myriad pots EVERYWHERE at my place.  ;D

Kind of sad isn't it..... Just after 11pm on New Year's Eve and where am I..... posting pics on the SRGC.  I am NOT addicted to this forum.... I'm NOT!! :o
