Beechgrove Potting Shed recording a radio programme for 7th June on the Saturday  about 12 noon and broadcasting live on Sunday 31st from the Beechgrove Theatre.

Scottish Daily Mail has a voucher in today's issue (27 May) giving £4 off the entry price for the show for 2 people. Not a bad return on 40p!



Apparently there are 9 new floral exhibitors in the Floral Hall this year (though I believe, from discussions at the Harrogate Show, that the total number of exhibitors is down).

Hi all, I and a small team Carol Bainbridge, Ian Pryde, Graham Wenham have set up a display with information area
selling books and seed at gardening Scotland for the SRGC the show will be judged tomorrow but here are a few pictures from today,  cheers Ian the Christie kind.

Nice pictures Ian, looks jolly gloomy in the hall, is this effect from the flash or is it rather dull inside...it reminds me of Harrogate trade area, the hall there is very poor on the lighting front, I don't know how the display plants survive a few days in such conditions...one reason that the alpine show at Harrogate went down from three days to one as three days had a terrible effect on the plants. Good to see that the die hards are working as hard as ever to encourage alpine growing

Plenty going on there then. And a good selection of food by the looks of things. A chocolate stand Maggi? or will you have to take your own?

Some very interesting stuff there but yes, dreadful lighting. For the plants' sake and everyones' I hope it's just an optical illusion.

Hi all, a quick note before I get to work, the lighting is terrible i would say worse but must not swear, the Highland hall where the floral show is we would ususally see it full of cattle and sheep the powers that be do not recognise that we have some of the very best horticulture in Scotland but special consideration for flowers and plants NEVER I am sick trying to tell these people and the whole show is going to move to a new area as the Edinburgh airport is going to expand well someone please tell the high heid yins we want  somewhere suited for flowers, plants, people evrything, more pictures later,  cheers Ian the Christie kind.

Hot News! The awards tables are just this second in from Gardening Scotland:
Wow! Kevock Plants have done it again!! Huge congratulations to Stella and David Rankin and their team for pulling off another Gold Medal, Alf Evans Award for the best alpine exhibit and BEST IN SHOW !!!!  With luck the stand will feature strongly on the BBC TV programme Beechgrove Garden this evening , Friday 29th May at 7.30pm BBC1.  Also on Sky channel 971, I think.

 Though on the awards table their garden is named as "Farming of Yesteryear" - presumably the organisers/judges are not so tough at GS as those at Chelsea etc. in insisting that exhibitors "follow the stated brief"  and thus  "Var Scotica" has this blurb on the GS web site      :

Description of Garden:  Our "Neep hut" is an old corrugated tin hut on iron wheels which old farmer Duncan used to tow, full of neeps, into whichever field was required to feed the hungry sheep in the hard Strathardle winters. Sometimes it was towed by horse but, more often than not, mainly using his old fergie.
