I was going to put my Neenish Tart recipe here but on reflection, I think I'll start a new thread called "Cooks' Corner."

We've just had friends round to watch the Andy Murray match and had Delia's 'simple stroganof' as our main course. We started with an aperitif - the 'philosopher's grog', a recipe used by Charles Darwin on the Beagle. The meal started with prosciutto and melon and finished with Perthshire strawberries and cream. Yum yum.

Who would have thought that my strange lemon would have generated into a cooking topic.  :o

Any guesses? ...and a packet of seed to the first correct answer (just remember I'm in Africa and can't send you anything hardy!)   ;D

Fermi,

I was trying to work out whether there was any way it could be a leaf insect?

I'm assuming it is part of a leaf and we're supposed to work out what it is a leaf of?
Cheers.

Looks like a shell from a shellfish to me, partially fossilized

It DOES look a shell doesn't it? You can see the little bit where it would join to the other half. Maybe a scallop?

Because this isn't a moan and I certainly wasn't so happy about it, perhaps this is the right place for a small event that happened yesterday.

I dropped a small, full bottle of very hot tabasco sauce and the top broke and spilled a few drops on the kitchen floor. I found half the top but couldn't see the other half before the intrepid Teddy found it and, as he does, had a good chew. He leapt in the air, yelped and rushed around like a dervish but after a few minutes had the gumption to stick most of his face and mouth in the water bowl at the back door, fortunately open. But for a little while there, we had a very hot dog? Though I felt for him, it was really hilariously funny.

It looks like a cocoa pod suspended or partially fossilised in the solidified rock ... but, then again, I am under the influence of altitude and an abundance of white wine here in the glorious Dolomites!   ;D ;D ;D
