I need some more help...

This was sown as Rhodophiala elwesii - in which case it should have been yellow I believe...

It clearly isn't.
Any ideas of what it really is ??

Luc - Some elwesii from JJA are pale yellow, some yellow and pale salmon and asome with slightly more salmon than yellow.  A few here in bloom plus auracana JJA (????) just about to open. Can send a shot if needed and seed when ripe.

This looks what I have under a BCW number (lost). I have a dozen seedlings and the first was pale yellow and others were this colour and variously striped lemon/yellow,pinkish/salmon. Maybe some hybrid blood?

Could you possibly post some pix of yours for comparison.

I must add the colour of thise is more towards red than salmon - the pictures are not 100%

Here a pale yellow Rhodophiala elwesii (ex cw JJA  - collected wild Jim & Jenny Archibald seed) from last year Luc. The stigma looks different.

Luc - And a couple more Rhodophiala elwesii  from today. The salmon parts are looking quite pink, we have had but a few hours of sun in the last month, the yellow almost ivory. The first flower shown and from the same seed lot has broader petals than the others, a little odd looking - hybridity or natural variation?.

Thanks again John - it seems to remain a mystery as to what it is exactly - I guess it must be a hybrid.

It was grown from AGS seed (not SRGC as I wrote earlier) sown in December 2006.

I know too well the hazards of entering one of the many shops called Leonidas in Antwerp.  One could well become rather bulbous in a hurry.

Actually, there should be no misunderstanding - it wasn't me that grew these - it was my dear friend and lurker Luc II who some might remember from previous posts...
I doubt it wether he would be feeding chocolate to his bulbs... he likes to eat it himself  ;D ;D  as we Belgians all do...  ::)  ... and not only Belgians for that matter...  ;)

Anyway, he rechecked his recodrds and did confirm decmber 2006 as being the sowing date
 ??? :-\

You can certainly get R. bifida to flower in three years from seed, but then again it is an easy species and I happen to live in a warm, temperate climate...  8) ...would I only have such success with R. bagnoldii!
