Dear Mark,
The fern is usually available in The British Pteridological Society Spore Exchange. (ferns from spores isn't difficult).
You are too late for this season, but worth a try this Autumn.

All the best,

Mark
I picked up some spores (but not of the species you wish) from The British Pteridological Society stand at the Tatton Show. The folk (like all botanically minded folk) couldn't have been more helpfu. Apparently where I'd been going wrong had been in not sterilising the soil by pouring boiling water over it and then letting it cool prior to casting the spores. The Society has a bargain membership at the moment giving a number of additional months to the standard annual subscription.
I got details of all the best fern stockists:

Mark (and David), the Cypella is probably C.herbertii. If growing outside it almost certainly is. My plant seems to have some capsules developing so I may be able to supply seed in a few weeks.

That would be nice Darren. I'll make a little list of the South African stuff I have spare.

We're all very keen on getting you hooked on South American Iridaceae, Mark! I have seeds of
Hesperoxiphion peruvianum
(Syn.
Cypella peruviana
) if you're still looking. I call this plant "open by seven, gone by eleven" - it does have lovely scented flowers to boot

Rogan,
If you perchance have a couple spare to throw this way I would be grateful too (if not, maybe next year if you have some?). I have had 3 bulbs for many years, slowly dwindling down to a single bulb now. No seed set unfortunately. I'd love to start some more. I am guessing this is one of the genus/species that like a lot of water while in growth, like some of the Cypella species? I am guessing I've been keeping mine a bit too dry while in growth and they're just holding on rather than thriving. Should this species multiply at all? Sorry for all the questions.... don't see this plant mentioned very often so happy to absorb any information I can find on it.
Thanks.
