Unknown plant, maybe Cortusa species?
« on: April 17, 2007, 08:40:43 PM »
Hello everyone,
I have got this plant last year as Cortusa matthioli. Leafs does look like Cortusa, but the flower is really strange! It flowers now but I think Cortusa matthioli should flower in next Month. Could that be some kind of a mutation? If anyone knows what the species is, please let me know.

Best Regards,
Krzysztof Ciesielski

Hello, Krzysztof, a very warm welcome to the SRGC Forum.
That is a nice plant you have there, and no, it is not a Cortusa, it is another member of the primulaceae, it is Primula sieboldii.  These come in a big range of colours and have leaves that are very similar to Cortusa, or even Primula cortusoides !

Thank you Maggi very much for identyfication. I think I would have to moove this species to other place. It is really beautiful plant but in my tiny garden I grow only my native plants. Now where I would get Cortusa matthioli than?

Yes, Krzysztof, I see from your profile that you prefer your native plants of Poland.

There may be a forumist reading this who has seed or plants to exchange with you, we shall see.
We have several forumists who are living in Poland, I think, so perhaps one of them may be able to help you.
Perhaps you can try the various nurseries that are listed in t the Forum LINKS pages,  see the button at the top of this page, or in the links pages of the main website  See here: http://www.srgc.org.uk/links/content.php
Most of the places do have mail order.

We will be delighted if you will post photos of your garden and native flowers, in the wild on the forum.
